COVID-19 and Total Dog’s Role as an Essential Business ENROLL TODAY: (888)-748-7829

Hello Total Dog! Family,

The spread of COVID-19, a unique time for all of us. As we have been dedicated to helping dogs and their owners build balanced relationships through clear communication for almost 20 years, we follow suit in being as clear and transparent in our operations and our commitment to you. Our programs and approaches have been carefully evaluated by the Founding Team of Total Dog! so as to best facilitate the training and experiences that you have come to expect from one of the leaders in the dog training and pet care community. With that, please note the following:

For our Clients, Employees, and Vendors we will do our part to make sure that there is no disruption in scheduling, safety and supply chains. If anyone in any part of this sequence does not feel well or is not comfortable with any aspect of scheduled training, please notify us immediately. We are monitoring advice and directives from the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and other federal and state entities, and we are adhering and supporting social distancing of groups as well as other measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

With that in mind, our community-based training program, “Out and About”, will be paused for the month of March and resumed after careful re-evaluation and in a manner that adheres to the guidance from the appropriate authorities.

We are also providing consultations and certain lessons over a virtual client (Facetime, Zoom, Skype, etc.) that can be coordinated with your trainer at your convenience. While this does not take the place of hands-on instruction, there is a lot of progress you and your dog can make via virtual instruction.

As you know, dogs are social animals and it is our opinion that locking them up indoors for the foreseeable future may create problems. With that in mind, be wise in the exercise and socializing of your dog.

It is our intention to provide Maximum attentiveness in our response to you and that we do so responsibly, compassionately and from the leadership position that we are in. To that end, we are available to all of our clients to talk about their dogs, work on schedules, solidify training plans and whatever is needed to stay on the course of helping you getting the most out of your relationship with your dog and in succeeding in your ability to have your own Total Dog!

Respectfully,
Total Dog! Team

Additionally, We’ve Answered Some Frequently Asked Questions

Q: “Should I cancel my training lessons until ‘things blow over’?”
A: Ultimately, you should do what you are most comfortable with. We are offering virtual solutions and a lot of our training is outdoors, in between you and your trainer, both great options! We have already noticed a larger call volume now that people are at home with their animals more, so we would like to avoid our clients getting pushed back rather than staying in our training queue. A large percentage of our clients are choosing to utilize our Board and Train option as well. This option maximizes, the training for your dog, and minimizes human contact.
Q: “Can I get COVID-19 from my dog, or vice versa?”
A: We cannot give medical advice as we are not physicians or veterinarians. However, we have been in contact with several veterinarians, most of which have referenced this article written by Dr. Niels Pedersen, distinguished emeritus professor at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and a renowned expert on infectious and immunologic diseases in dogs and cats.

And the short answer is “No”. Check out this article.

*** PLEASE READ ***
Not understanding the information above has caused some issues for dogs, cats and those that shelter both. Many shelters are reporting that people are surrendering animals under the fear that there is the possibility of cross-species transference. Please pass this information along so that we do not create another problem borne from not taking the time to learn.

Q: “My dog is with your team for Board and Train”, or “Should I still send my dog off to Board and Train with you?”
A: People choose our Board & Train option for the training of their pets for many reasons, either the professional jump start, the savings of time, the clarity for the dog, etc. None of these reasons are impacted by current events, but may actually be enhanced! We know dogs, and we are staying the course with our commitment to providing awesome training and for some people, that is helpful while they navigate these times.
Q: “This whole thing is changing our lifestyle, got any advice?”
A: Dogs can be creatures of habit, so they will likely take notice of change immediately. Continue to guide them, love them and provide what they inherently need so that they are fulfilled. Lack of this fulfillment is usually why people call us, and we show folks how to satisfy the dog’s needs. If you need help, call one of Total Dog! trainers.
